Argyros winery
The largest private owner of vineyards in Santorini is Estate Argyros. The estate has been established in 1903. The vineyards are planted on volcanic soils and cover 26 hectares (65 acres) of land on the island.
Argyro's vineyards are situated at altitudes ranging from 115-500 ft (35-150m) above sea level. The vines are cultivated in the traditional basket style, which shelters the grapes from Santorini's strong winds. Every single vineyards is considered a unique organism. Native grapes varieties like Assyrtico, Arthurian and Aidani are planted here making wines in a range of styles, from dry whites to sweet Vinsanto. The grapes for the Vinsanto are dried outdoors on the dry, sun-baked ground- a technique unique to this region.
This is a tour for all winemakers and it is also a nice introduction to the indigenous grapes of Santorini and the story of Estate Argyros. All wine tours include time spend in vineyards and the production side of the winery. You will experience the Assyrtico grapes and the Santorini wines at their finest coupled with cheese and cold cuts.
