Welcome to Santorini Caldera Tours, step out into the caldera now
Welcome to our stunning island!
Santorini is the world-famous volcanic island located in the most southern part of the Cyclades group of islands in the Aegean Sea, in Greece. It is an area of approximately 73 sq km (28sq.mi) and a 2011 census population of 15,550. Santorini got its present half-moon shape in about 1,613 B.C. when a volcanic eruption took place. The eruption left a large caldera surrounded by volcanic ash deposits hundreds of meters deep and it raised waves so high that reached the northern Coast of Crete and destroyed the Minoan civilization. Before this eruption, the island was called "Stroggyli" due to its circular shape. The eruption caused the creation of two more separate islands, Thirasia and Aspronisi. These two islands, along with Santorini, form a circle in the middle of which is the Caldera. The volcano of Santorini remains still active and along centuries many eruptions have occassionally occurred. In some of these eruptions emerged the uninhabited islands of Nea Kameni, Palaia Kameni,Aspronisi. The everlasting beauty of Santorini attracts thousands of visitors every year and it is no wonder that the island is one of the top tourist destinations especially for couples. With its reputation for dazzling panoramas, romantic sunsets, volcanic-sand beaches, traditional villages and nightlife, it's hardly surprising the island features on so many travellers' bucket lists.
